Mary was rescued by the COP Borneo team in February 2019 in Longgie, Berau, East Kalimantan. The villagers had kept Mary illegally since November 2018. They claim that they found her wandering alone near a main road so they felt pity for her and took her home. Mary was kept in a small wooden cage outside that was only 1.5m x 1m.
